step two

haven’t been on here in a while- 

started to really get the shop going- it’s working great.

completed the digital end of the cnc, 

started making the physical parts of the cnc, most of the main structure has been completed. 

still some work to do, 

*might be looking into a thickness planer from craighslist- [always a little hesitant]

no news yet for getting the lancelot blade, but I know a chainsaw carver with one, i may be teaming up with once the cnc is a go. haven’t seen the tool in action tho. 

this carver gets lots of local jobs, says with the help of the cnc i’d be doing him a favor if i could just raster or engrave company names or logos. 

so that should be cool.

might be changing careers for the better… next update should clarify things in that dept. 

but i have to say i’m keeping busy, and enjoying where the shop has come from and where it’s going.

My focus has recently been on a thickness planer, which would help a ton while laminating planks to sculpt larger works. 

but then i discovered what the heck an adze is, and am attempting to make one, double-sided one, with some bar steel i’ve got. one side for gouging the other is a chisel-like blade.  google it, its an old but useful tool for wood carving.

then my focus bounced back to a King Arthur ‘s Lancelot Carving wheel. it’s basically a chainsaw in a disk form for an angle grinder. it’s pretty sick. 

and then I think i have some more figured out on the CNC, I Really want to get it made, because it will be infinitely useful.

so that and so prototyping is what i’ve been doing lately. pics when i get around to it. and after the fact most likely. 

im in the process now of making sleds and jigs for my tools, so i will easily be able to do just about anything in my shop. progress pics soon. stay tuned.

just got and partially assembled a standing bad saw, which adds to my ‘new’ scroll saw. currently possess a radial arm saw also, so i feel okay with cutting tools for now.. now to get a belt/disk sander, and a drill press. im on the fence which should be next. i was leaning on the drill press, however i have a manual one, and i may not use it tons- plus my dewalt hammer drill is pretty intense. im sure i could make do with that for now, and go with the sander. … its a tough choice. but im leaning towards the sander now more than 5 mins ago. ill sleep on it. not like people read this, its just so i can see my thoughts in black and white. and also to achieve things and events that deal with design.
